About Cipru NordDetails and images of Cipru Nord

Cipru Nord

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus resulted from the invasion of the northern part of Cyprus by the Turkish army and is internationally recognized only by Turkey. When we think of Cyprus the sea, the sun and the beaches with fine sand come to mind, but Cyprus is much more than that, it is a story about endless wars and division. It is the only European country with the divided capital, with a demarcation line that runs right through the center, dividing the country into two.

Recommendations for travel Cipru Nord

From virgin beaches to spectacular mountains and from traditional villages to charming cities, Northern Cyprus is home to an impressive density of tourist attractions. The old port Kyrenia (Girne) - besides the medieval castle, the port with boats and the traditional houses on the seafront, the city has that typical Mediterranean atmosphere that we like so much. Set in a natural story setting, with mountains in the back, Kyrenia is considered the most beautiful in the whole island. Another story city is Famagusta where you can take a stroll on the streets of the city center to discover part of the grandeur of what was once Famagusta: the most important port on the island and one of the most prosperous cities in the eastern Mediterranean. What makes the city really special are the Gothic ruins that tower the historical center, from cathedrals to palaces, buildings destroyed during the 16th century Ottoman siege. Varosha, the ghost town built in the 1960s, almost immediately won its place among the top resorts of the Mediterranean, becoming a true magnet for celebrities of the time. In 1974, following the ethnic conflict that divided Cyprus, Varosha was occupied by the Turkish army. The entire breath, including the population and the tourists, was evacuated within 24 hours from here, leaving everything unchanged, rising in time. For 45 years Varosha has been a ghost town.
The ruins of the ancient city of Salamis, the most important city of the island from antiquity, preserved remarkably. Nicosia (Leftkoşa) is the capital of the self-proclaimed republic of Northern Cyprus and is the only city divided by a border, on the model of Berlin during the Cold War. Although the same city, the differences are huge, you practically go to another world, once you pass the checkpoint (just the bulletin is enough). There are many beaches in this region, but the most authentic ones are definitely in the Karpaz Peninsula, a forgotten place in the world where there are numerous wild donkeys, but of course, both Kyrenia and Famagusta have fine sand beaches. Also in Northern Cyprus we find the Kyrenia Mountains, which, unlike the Troodos Mountains, on the Greek side, are less tall but there are enough reasons to visit them. The three most important objectives here are the three crossed castles. Of which: St. Hilarion, Kantara and Buffavento. The view from here to the Mediterranean, on the one hand and to the Island of Aphrodite, on the other, are unmatched.
